Software Engineer Fullstack / Backend II

Join Cisco’s Splunk Control Plane organization to help build and operate a self-service automated cloud platform that enables deployment and operations across multiple cloud providers.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a large-scale codebase that deploys daily across multiple cloud platforms, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and GovCloud, supporting thousands of enterprise customers.
• Design self-service developer tools and abstractions so internal engineering teams can manage infrastructure safely without centralized bottlenecks.
• Deploy and monitor production systems across multi-cloud environments, tuning telemetry, metrics, and alerting to improve operational reliability.
• Participate in supported on-call rotations to investigate complex anomalies, resolve production incidents, and determine root causes.
• Build and integrate AI-powered tools into engineering workflows to automate configuration changes and improve continuous delivery pipeline performance.

Requirements

• Education and experience options:
  • Master’s degree with 0 years of work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of work experience
  • An educational/workforce development program (Associate’s, Apprenticeship, Boot camp, or Certification) with 3 years of work experience
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) with 4 years of work experience
• Qualifying education/work experience should be in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• Demonstrated proficiency writing software, data structures, and algorithms in at least one modern programming language (examples: Go, Python, Ruby).
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, or managing cloud infrastructure across major providers: AWS, GCP, or Microsoft Azure.
• Applied coursework or practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code (CaC), or automation tooling (examples: Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, CloudFormation).

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes, including kubectl.
• Knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including concurrency control, consistency models, CAP theorem, or distributed databases/file systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD deployment pipelines, automated testing, system observability/telemetry, and Unix/Linux terminal environments.
• Experience using generative AI tools or machine learning models to automate developer tooling, infrastructure workflows, or script execution.
• Proven ability to take proactive ownership, communicate technical concepts effectively, and thrive in an agile environment.

Additional Role Requirements (FedRAMP Compliant Environment)
