Software Engineer I
Job Description
As a Software Engineer I at Amerisure Insurance, you will support assigned development initiatives by assisting with coding tasks, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating with senior engineers on technical design and delivery. This hybrid role in Farmington Hills, MI includes work across cloud platforms, DevOps tooling, automated testing, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with software architecture and system design under the guidance of senior engineers, applying software design patterns and principles while evaluating trade-offs.
- Support cross-stakeholder projects across IT, contributing to high-priority initiatives.
- Follow established software development processes and methodologies.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve coding errors by reviewing logs, stepping through execution, and using debugging tools to improve reliability and troubleshoot integrations.
- Help maintain domain operations for financial applications, sales platforms, integrations, and other key business systems, supporting reliability and performance.
- Participate in agile practices and support the Scrum Master role as needed, coordinating with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Assist in creating architectural diagrams using tools such as Lucidchart and Visio, applying cloud-native and modern engineering development principles.
- Contribute to the management of system-generated data by supporting data quality and proactively addressing potential issues.
- Track and report on KPIs, compliance requirements, and business outcomes.
- Develop and support test automation frameworks and tools by writing automated test scripts using JUnit, NUnit, GT-Framework, and pytest to validate functionality and prevent regressions.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code while adhering to industry best practices, security guidelines, and company coding standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer information services, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic proficiency in at least one programming language and frameworks, including programming, low-code solutions, and process automation technologies.
- Ability to understand and design low complexity system architectures and collaborate with other senior engineers and architecture.
- Familiarity with one cloud platform is preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies such as containers and serverless, along with cloud-first development practices.
- Ability to comprehend and discuss appropriate software design patterns and principles to support new solutions.
- Understanding of version control and CI/CD pipelines, including the ability to deploy simple applications.
- Utilize existing or create new code assets that may include automated unit test coverage, regression tests, documentation, security, or monitoring.
- Basic understanding of testing concepts (unit, integration, system), including familiarity with test case design and execution.
- Experience with manual testing and defect tracking.
- Collaborate on ideas from others and support implementation using applied technology such as AI/ML and RPA to solve real-world problems.
- Basic understanding of system-generated data, including where it flows, data quality, and data stewardship across the domain.
- Awareness of secure application and integration best practices, including NIST Top 25 and OWASP Top 10.
- Basic understanding of technical domain operations, KPIs, compliance requirements, audit and control mechanisms, and how business processes drive outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
