Job Description

JPMorganChase is actively expanding its AI research capabilities in Jersey City, with this on-site Software Engineer III role focused on advancing Python-first platforms and GenAI applications within AI Research. You will help turn cutting-edge research into secure, scalable production software deployed across cloud environments using CI/CD and infrastructure as code, collaborating closely with data scientists and AI researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and writes software applications for AI/ML platforms and builds Generative AI based applications including Agents, with a strong emphasis on Python.
  • Employs creative problem solving to design, develop, and troubleshoot technical solutions, pursuing innovative approaches to complex challenges.
  • Shows interest and familiarity with agent-based programming, especially with the latest techniques.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to streamline or automate recurring issues and developer challenges to improve operational efficiency and software quality.
  • Utilizes CI/CD to deliver public and private cloud platforms, and is familiar with experimentation environments such as Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Collaborates with Data Scientists and AI Researchers to mature experiments into robust, scalable production-grade apps.
  • Contributes to a culture of opportunity, inclusion, and respect within the team.
  • Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools to enhance code quality, delivery speed, and productivity, validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; shares learnings and reusable patterns with the broader team.
  • Applies knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to maximize the value of automation.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering and at least 3 years of applied experience.
  • Practical experience in Infrastructure as Code development, ideally using Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience in application development, testing, and maintaining operational stability.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, with a strong focus on Python.
  • Expertise in automation and CI/CD/CT methods.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Model Development Life Cycle (MDLC).
  • Solid grasp of agile methodologies and basic proficiency with architectural frameworks.
  • Proven ability in platform development and related technical processes within cloud, AI, or machine learning contexts.
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools, with the capability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs/outputs, resiliency and security expectations, and the ability to guide peers on safe usage within team practices.
