Software Engineer, Tactical Systems Integration

NGS is building modern geospatial and C5ISR software for the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal customers, with a flagship platform powered by GeoServer, PostGIS, GDAL, MapStore2, and CesiumJS. This role embeds NGS geospatial and tactical data link capability into a partner command and control platform, connecting tactical message flows with modern IP-based systems. You will primarily work on backend services in Go, with React support for maps and operator views when needed.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain Go services for tactical message parsing, routing, and translation
• Integrate NGS capability into a partner platform using APIs, message brokers, and shared data models
• Build and extend React front-end components for operator-facing views and configuration
• Deploy and troubleshoot solutions in containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes
• Collaborate day to day with a distributed partner engineering team for sprint planning, code reviews, joint debugging, and release coordination
• Support integration events, demos, and test activity, including occasional troubleshooting under time pressure
• Apply secure coding practices and support DoD security and configuration requirements

Qualifications

• Journeyman: 3+ years professional software engineering experience building production backend services
• Senior: 8+ years professional software engineering experience building production backend services
• Go strength, or strong systems-level experience in C/C++/Java/Rust with demonstrated ability to pick up Go quickly
• Experience integrating software with military or tactical systems, including exposure to tactical data links (Link-16, VMF, JREAP, Link-11/22), C2 and situational awareness systems (GCCS, AFATDS, TAK, ATAK), military messaging and standards work, or sensor and radio integration
• Comfort with network programming including TCP/UDP, multicast, binary protocols, and byte-level message formats
• Linux, Git, and modern CI/CD workflows
• U.S. citizenship with an Active Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred, or ability to obtain and maintain one

• Prior DoD or IC program experience
• Military service in a communications, data links, or C4I role

Compensation and location

• Location: Mount Pleasant, SC (hybrid)
• Salary: USD 120,000 - 175,000 per year
• Minimum experience: 3 years
