Entegris is hiring a Sr Control Systems Engineer for its Advanced Purity Solutions Division at the San Luis Obispo, CA facility. This onsite role focuses on leading industrial control system and automation work, from design and programming through commissioning, testing, and continuous performance improvements.
Role Overview
The Sr Control Systems Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of industrial control systems and automation solutions. Responsibilities include work with PLC/HMI/SCADA, system integration, commissioning activities, and performance optimization across industrial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement advanced control systems and automation solutions for industrial processes
- Lead automation projects from concept through commissioning
- Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial automation
- Create electrical schematics and control panel layouts using CAD tools
- Design new systems from scratch using functional process design
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and instrumentation into automated systems
- Troubleshoot and update existing production floor systems (hardware and software)
- Support Field Service Engineers during commissioning and post-sales activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software personnel
- Provide leadership and mentorship to other team members
- Attend multi-functional meetings and represent the team
- Perform FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing)
- Ensure systems meet performance, safety, and compliance standards
- Analyze system performance and implement improvements
- Deliver technical support and training for maintenance teams
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, control logic, and user manuals
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or mechatronics (Master’s degree preferred)
- 7+ years of experience in industrial environments as a controls engineer with progressive career growth
- Strong experience in PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens), SCADA systems, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)
- Proficiency with electrical design software (AutoCAD, EPLAN)
- Knowledge of safety standards including NFPA 79, IEC 61131, and OSHA
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience with robotics, motion control, and Industry 4.0 technologies
- Familiarity with MES and ERP integration
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems desired
- Control Systems PE will be a plus
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong documentation skills
