Sr Data Engineer -- Assortment and Space Planning
Job Description
Sr Data Engineer role focused on building and maintaining data pipeline infrastructure for Assortment and Space Planning self-service analytics and business applications.
Responsibilities
- Implement coding validation and ETL workflows to support reliable data integration
- Perform backup and optimization tasks to maintain pipeline performance, integrity, and correctness (code/configure/test)
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipeline architecture aligned to business requirements
- Translate business needs into data architecture decisions and pipeline deliverables
- Partner with team leads and cross-functional stakeholders to assess requirements and communicate pipeline opportunities
Position Purpose
- Build the infrastructure that structures and delivers data powering self-service analytics and production-grade business applications
- Acquire and integrate datasets aligned to business needs; transform data into actionable information via pipelines
- Own the end-to-end pipeline lifecycle: build, test, and maintain data pipeline architectures and data products
- Create data validation approaches and data quality tooling to improve monitoring, reliability, and confidence
- Use modern data engineering practices to cleanse, organize, and transform data
- Maintain, defend, and update data structures and data integrity through automated processes
- Establish design standards and assurance processes for data pipelines and applications to support compatibility and operability
- Review internal and external business and product requirements to recommend system and storage changes or upgrades
- Mentor and coach less experienced engineers; collaborate with data science, analytics, and application engineering to align on pipeline design
- Communicate pipeline decisions and data quality tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical partners
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in a quantitative or technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, etc.) or relevant work experience
- 6+ years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience in data architecture, data warehousing, and dimensional modeling
- Demonstrated experience developing and testing ETL/ELT jobs and pipelines, including orchestration configuration, automated CI/CD, automation scripts, and production pipeline support
- Experience with Dataform or dbt for transformation and pipeline orchestration
- Experience with Python or other high-level programming languages
- Experience defining and capturing metadata and ETL rules
- Experience building batch and streaming pipelines
- Experience writing and performance-tuning analytical SQL queries (preferably Google BigQuery)
- Ability to stitch and maintain data across multiple sources
- Ability to optimize pipeline runtime and reduce cost related to slot/storage consumption
- Ability to prioritize requests and manage a pipeline roadmap
- Ability to coach junior engineers on code quality, best practices, and data engineering fundamentals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels

Location / Travel / Working Conditions
- Location: Atlanta, GA (onsite)
- Travel: typically overnight travel less than 10%
- Working conditions: comfortable indoor environment; any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable
- Physical requirements: most time spent sitting; frequent opportunity to move about; rare occasions may require moving or lifting light articles
