Sr Engineer

The Sr Engineer role provides technical leadership for planning, design, and delivery of utility infrastructure programs in electric and gas systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and complete assignments in specialized engineering areas requiring extensive technical expertise, including maintaining current engineering credentials in the specialty
• Lead engineering work tied to critical analytical efforts or multiple complex projects, which may include field testing, troubleshooting, and peer review
• Evaluate complex technical problems using deep specialization and recommend actions or programs for resolution, which may include reviewing engineering design documents
• Develop, implement, and lead projects with significant financial and operational impact; may develop initial commissioning plans
• Plan and produce documentation deliverables and project-related written outputs
• Work independently on assignments and may lead multi-discipline teams; may provide direct oversight of contracts
• Provide technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to other engineers
• Support department planning activities including field/site walkdowns, meetings and conference calls, budget recommendations, and performance monitoring tied to committed results
• Participate in technical and industry societies and committees to stay current on new technologies and issues relevant to company interests

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
• 7+ years of professional engineering experience
• Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems
• Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory
• Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes, methods, and practices specific to the area of expertise
• Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues
• Minimum of three related career experiences (such as changes in technical responsibilities, which may or may not include a department change) OR Lead Member of a recognized industry committee OR Professional Engineer license, advanced technical degree, MBA, or Project Management Certification
• Master’s degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year
• PE License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing
• PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year

Primary Purpose of Position

• Provide technical leadership for planning, design, and execution of Exelon utility infrastructure projects including electric or gas distribution, transmission, substations, and related systems
• Mentor junior engineers and lead complex engineering studies while aligning work with safety, reliability, and compliance goals
• Work may include leading advanced electric, gas, and/or communications system performance analysis and outage investigations
• Develop and implement engineering strategies for grid modernization
• Manage budgets, schedules, and resource allocation for major projects
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement
• Conduct field inspections and resolve high-impact technical challenges
• May be required to work extended hours for storm coverage or other energy delivery emergencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree or graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration, or Project Management Certification
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or Professional Engineer license
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate with management levels
• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, including report generation and technical writing
• Advanced experience in utility infrastructure such as system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution
• Knowledge of substation engineering designs, principles, and practices
• Experience with substation construction project

Compensation and Benefits

• Location: Washington, DC (onsite)
• Salary: USD 103,200 - 141,900 per year (varies by skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors)
