Sr Hardware Engineer Lead

TEKsystems is hiring a Sr Hardware Engineer Lead for hands-on embedded hardware leadership in Jacksonville, FL.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded electronic product design and development from concept through production, covering circuit design, component selection, prototyping, design reviews, documentation, EVT/DVT/PVT, and product release
• Drive analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, sensor, wireless, and microcontroller-based hardware engineering, including schematic development and PCB layout reviews to support performance, design quality, and manufacturability
• Own prototype bring-up and functional verification, including environmental and reliability testing, EMC pre-compliance testing, hardware debugging, root cause analysis, and design validation
• Provide hands-on technical support for production and existing products, addressing manufacturing issues, pilot builds, engineering changes, yield improvements, product enhancements, defect reduction, and complex troubleshooting
• Partner with Procurement and Supply Chain on component availability, alternate component qualification, obsolescence, supplier technical issues, second sourcing, and cost reduction initiatives
• Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex product and customer issues, including field failures, returned product evaluation, hardware/firmware troubleshooting, corrective actions, and root cause analysis
• Coordinate with Quality on engineering documentation and design controls, including CAPA investigations, configuration management, and ISO 9001 requirements; support product certifications and testing such as EMC/EMI, FCC, CE, UL, HazLoc, plus environmental and reliability testing
• Provide team and technical guidance across engineering execution, including technical direction, mentoring, prioritization, design reviews, engineering best practices, cross-training, and knowledge sharing
• Collaborate with Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Technical Support, and Operations to prioritize issues and ensure successful development and ongoing product support

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (required)
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (preferred)
• 3–7 years of experience in hardware design and development of embedded electronic products
• Proven ability to take products from concept through production and provide sustaining engineering support
• Experience supporting manufacturing, production, supply chain, and field technical support
• Experience in cross-functional product development teams
• Strong knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design
• Microcontroller-based embedded systems experience and common communication interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet
• Experience designing power supplies, sensor interfaces, and battery-powered products
• Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB design/PCB layout review using PADS, Altium Designer, or OrCAD
• Familiarity with signal integrity, EMC/EMI mitigation, DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and DFT (Design for Testability)
• Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters, and power supplies
• Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware problems and perform root cause analysis
• Experience with product validation, environmental testing, and regulatory compliance (preferred: FCC, CE, UL, EMC, HazLoc)
• Working knowledge of Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes, configuration management, and engineering documentation
• Embedded firmware development and debugging knowledge (preferred)
• Software/middleware expertise preferred: Python, C, C++, and Linux systems

Pay

• Estimated range: $140,000 - $165,000 per year
• Final compensation depends on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other job-related factors
