Sr. Principal Design Engineer
Job Description
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems offers a hybrid role in Buffalo, NY for a Senior Principal Design Engineer focused on Circuit Card Assemblies and Printed Circuit Boards for fabrication. You will collaborate across suppliers and internal teams, work with Cadence Allegro and Valor NPI, and participate in design-for-manufacturing reviews that influence fabrication outcomes. A Master’s degree in a STEM field is required, and the role requires US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, along with travel up to 10% as project needs dictate.
Responsibilities
- Apply expert knowledge of Circuit Card Assembly and PCB fabrication to establish design rules, perform design-for-manufacturing checks, and generate fabrication notes for PCBs.
- Calculate layer stack-up based on industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements.
- Utilize Cadence Allegro and Valor NPI to produce the electronic data outputs for fabrication and run design-for-manufacturing checks.
- Serve as the primary interface with CCA and PCB suppliers, ensuring clear communication and alignment on requirements.
- Incorporate technical theories of electrical and mechanical PCB behavior to influence layout decisions, including impedance considerations, differential pairs, stresses, and component orientation.
- Travel up to 10 percent as project needs require.
Requirements
- Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree in a STEM field with 6 years of experience, or in lieu of the degree an additional 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in PCB fabrication and layer stack-up for digital, RF, mixed-signal, and power supply CCAs.
- Proficiency with Cadence Allegro and Valor NPI, or equivalent CAD tools.
- Expert knowledge of industry specifications and design-for-manufacturing rules for CCA and PCB design and fabrication.
- Ability to read drawings and schematic diagrams.
- US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
