Job Description

Northrop Grumman’s Integration & Test (I&T) organization is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer to support systems requirements and verification through hands-on testing. This role is 100% on-site at the Woodland Hills, CA facility (Los Angeles, CA area).

Role Overview

The Sr Principal Systems Engineer will work across systems engineering and test activities, translating customer and product requirements into verifiable system solutions. Responsibilities include requirements flowdown, functional and timeline analysis, creation and management of requirements sets, and hands-on electrical and systems-level test execution. The position also includes documenting and disposing of hardware discrepancies and driving root cause and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify unique requirements from a broad customer base, flow them into design documentation, and partner with a diverse team to build and test those requirements
  • Support current product capabilities, performance analyses, design information, and requirements verification methods
  • Convert customer and product requirements into total systems solutions that account for technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Conduct functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, and requirements allocation
  • Create, review, and manage multiple requirements sets covering performance and nonperformance areas including mechanical interfaces, electrical interfaces, data requirements, environmental requirements, and reliability
  • Design, develop, and implement testing methods to verify and validate project requirements
  • Perform hands-on electrical testing at CCA level and support systems-level test setups
  • Document and disposition hardware discrepancies, pursue root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions

Required Qualifications

  • 8 years relevant experience with a B.S. Electrical Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline, or 6 years with a M.S. equivalent, or 3 years with a PhD Electrical Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline
  • Active US Government Secret level security clearance
  • System Engineering experience including requirements development
  • System Engineering experience including test procedure development
  • Verification and Validation experience, including running tests and documenting results
  • Ability to diagnose complex issues, lead problem-solving efforts, and drive tasks to completion
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership of projects or teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work onsite in Woodland Hills, CA as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active US Government TS/SCI with poly security clearance
  • Experience with IBM Rational DOORS and technical baseline management
  • Systems Engineering experience on large, complex systems
  • Experience supporting test investigations and debugging efforts
  • Proficiency in at least one programming environment: MATLAB, C, C++, C#, and/or Python
  • Experience creating automated test scripts that integrate with hardware interfaces
  • Working knowledge of standard test equipment such as network analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, synthesizers, digitizers, and/or signal analyzers
  • Working knowledge of standard design components such as filters, couplers, splitters, amplifiers, etc.
  • Experience working with operational hazards including overhead lifting, Thermal Chambers, and Vibration Test systems
  • Strong track record driving innovation and digital-transformation initiatives in test workflows
  • Experience engaging external customers through meetings, presentations, and technical negotiations

Compensation

The primary level salary range is USD 142,200 - 213,400 per year.
