Sr. Software Engineer - Core Automation Platform

Build AI-driven operations at global scale on Visa’s Global Operations team. This hybrid role helps shape intelligent automation, observability, and operational capabilities using Generative AI, AIOps, and full-stack AI application development. You’ll help deliver production-ready, secure AI platforms and applications that support highly integrated, high-throughput systems.

What you’ll do

• Contribute to the future of AI-driven operations for a leading payments platform.
• Build and scale automation, observability, and operational solutions for complex, highly integrated environments.
• Use Generative AI and AIOps to improve incident detection, response, and system reliability.
• Collaborate with world-class engineers to solve complex technical challenges at global scale.
• Support a culture of innovation, continuous learning, blameless postmortems, and proactive problem solving.
• Design and build reusable GenAI platforms, SDKs, pipelines, and shared frameworks that accelerate AI adoption across engineering teams.
• Develop AI solutions using agent frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, Haystack, or similar technologies.
• Implement modern AI architectures on AWS using services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, embeddings, vector databases, and agentic workflows.
• Design Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, LLM orchestration layers, evaluation frameworks, and LLMOps processes.
• Develop production-ready AI applications with backend technologies including Python, FastAPI, Flask, Node.js, and Kafka; and frontend technologies including React and TypeScript, integrating via REST/GraphQL.
• Build secure APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and enterprise integrations.
• Create intuitive, scalable user experiences for AI-powered products and platforms.
• Implement CI/CD automation using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Jira, ServiceNow, and Artifactory.
• Apply containerization, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and deployment best practices.
• Ensure monitoring, logging, observability, and recovery strategies are built into every solution.
• Partner with cybersecurity teams to deliver secure, enterprise-grade AI solutions in production.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor’s degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• 2-5 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or more than 2 years with an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field.
• Experience working in Agile environments, including SAFe and globally distributed teams.
• Generative AI frameworks and tools such as LangGraph, LangChain, Haystack, AWS Bedrock, or similar platforms.
• Backend development experience with Python, with FastAPI strongly preferred.
• Frontend development experience with React and TypeScript.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka/MQ/SQS.
• Vector databases and retrieval technologies such as FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate, OpenSearch, or similar solutions.
• CI/CD automation and developer platforms including GitHub, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins, ServiceNow, and related tooling.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
• RAG implementations at scale using cloud-based or enterprise vector stores.
• AWS experience including Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, API Gateway, Bedrock, and SageMaker.
• Experience building reusable platforms, frameworks, or developer tools that accelerate adoption across engineering teams.
• Experience in payments, financial services, risk management, fraud analytics, or other highly regulated industries.

Compensation and work setup

Location: Ashburn, VA (hybrid). Visa requires at least 3 days in office, with expectations confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Salary: USD 110,700 - 171,800 per year. Estimated US range for applicants is stated as $110,700.00 to $171,800.00 USD per year. Salary may vary based on job-related factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for bonus and equity.

Work hours: Varies based on department needs.

Travel: 5-10% of the time.
