Staff Commissioning Engineer, Mechanical

Crusoe is seeking a Staff Commissioning Engineer, Mechanical to serve as the primary point of accountability for commissioning activities across assigned data center projects. This role focuses on ensuring mechanical and controls systems meet design intent, Owner Project Requirements, and operational readiness expectations from factory witness testing through integrated systems testing and formal turnover.

Role Overview

As the on-site mechanical subject matter expert, you own the commissioning lifecycle across project phases. You coordinate third-party commissioning agents and vendors, oversee mechanical commissioning scope and deliverables, and ensure commissioning documentation and quality control support a complete and accurate turnover to operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for technical issues across all project phases and provide mechanical commissioning guidance on-site.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and O&M documentation to confirm alignment with design intent and project specifications.
• Maintain alignment between Owner Project Requirements (OPR) and the commissioning scope throughout the project lifecycle, including tracking changes and maintaining traceability to project objectives.
• Oversee third-party commissioning agents (CxA), including scope development, performance management, deliverable tracking, and oversight of activities such as factory witness testing and startup validation.
• Identify equipment requiring factory testing and coordinate with the procurement team to schedule vendor testing activities.
• Review and validate factory test procedures for compliance with project specifications prior to execution, and oversee Factory Witness Testing (FWT) for off-site manufactured equipment.
• Review and approve commissioning documentation, including the Cx Plan, L2–L5 test scripts, reports, and turnover packages.
• Oversee quality control processes including first-of-kind inspections and installation validation.
• Drive issue identification, troubleshooting, remediation, and formal closure across all commissioning phases.
• Ensure static and dynamic testing activities align with approved plans and performance standards.
• Support cross-functional collaboration between construction, engineering, controls, and operations teams across project phases.
• Manage stakeholder expectations by defining commissioning processes, roles, and levels of engagement.
• Ensure commissioning documentation is complete, accurate, and supports clean project turnover.
• Support transition to operations through technical guidance, training coordination, and post-handover support as required.
• Enforce safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements across all commissioning activities.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data center commissioning, construction, or critical infrastructure delivery.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; equivalent commissioning experience considered (CxA certification a plus).
• Deep knowledge of commissioning levels L1 through L5, including associated documentation and testing requirements.
• Hands-on experience with data center systems, including cooling infrastructure and BMS infrastructure.
• Proven experience managing third-party commissioning agents and holding vendors accountable to scope, schedule, and quality.
• Ability to review and interpret technical documentation such as construction drawings, single-line diagrams, submittals, and test procedures.
• Strong cross-functional coordination skills to align construction, engineering, controls, and operations around commissioning objectives.
• Experience with issue tracking, risk management, and project reporting across multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Solid understanding of safety and compliance requirements in active construction and commissioning environments.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required (75% travel).

Compensation

USD 140,000 - 165,000 per year + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers.
