Job Description

Manifest OS is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to take ownership of the target-state data platform architecture, guide reliability and execution, and lead the team building core data capabilities. This is an in-person role in the NYC office 5 days a week.

Role Overview

The Staff Data Engineer will direct the architecture, reliability, and long-term direction of the company’s data platform. You will define a sequenced roadmap, make clear build-vs-buy decisions across the stack, and ensure data products remain trustworthy and consistent across reporting and operational use cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the target-state data architecture across ingestion, modeling, semantic layer, and serving, including a sequenced roadmap and named trade-offs.
  • Drive build-vs-buy and tooling decisions for ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and observability.
  • Own data trust by making freshness, correctness, and lineage observable, and by enforcing standards in CI.
  • Maintain a single definitional layer so metrics mean the same thing in BigQuery, HubSpot, and board deck reporting.
  • Build governed foundations for AI features, including identity resolution and canonical entity models.
  • Lead and grow the team while staying close enough to the code to review hard designs and complex queries.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of data engineering, including serving as an architect (not only a contributor) for a cloud data platform.
  • Hands-on fluency with BigQuery (or Snowflake/Databricks), dbt, Python, and advanced SQL.
  • Production experience where opinions on orchestration, idempotency, and testing were shaped by real on-call incidents and paging.
  • Experience leading engineers formally or as a technical lead, with comfort operating in a player-coach capacity.
  • Core focus on security and compliance, including access control, PII handling, and auditability as first-order design requirements.

Technologies

  • BigQuery
  • Snowflake
  • Databricks
  • dbt
  • Python
  • SQL
  • HubSpot

Nice-to-Haves

  • Marketing attribution or multi-touch modeling across CRM, product, and clickstream data.
  • Experience building data foundations for ML or LLM-based product features.
  • Background in legal, healthcare, or fintech; early data hire experience at a high-growth company.

Location: New York, NY (onsite), in-person 5 days a week
Salary: USD 250,000 - 300,000 per year
