Job Description

Datadog is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in New York, NY (hybrid) to shape the Bring Your Own Cloud Logs offering by unifying observability pipelines with log management deployed in customer infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver deployments that feel like a managed Datadog product, covering deployment, upgrades, configuration, observability, diagnostics, reliability, and secure operation across varied customer cloud environments.
  • Build and scale high-throughput systems for log processing, routing, and transformation across distributed environments.
  • Lead cross-team programs, aligning engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to complete complex multi-team initiatives.
  • Design software that runs reliably in customer-owned cloud infrastructure and is straightforward for customers to deploy and operate.
  • Improve performance, scalability, and cost efficiency through thoughtful trade-offs and capacity planning.
  • Contribute hands-on to critical code paths, debugging, and deployment challenges within customer environments.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building software that is installed, deployed, and operated in customer environments rather than solely as a managed SaaS service.
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, including scalability, performance optimization, and high-throughput data processing.
  • Proficiency in systems programming languages such as Go, Rust, or C++, with a solid understanding of running software across Linux and diverse environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and the ability to troubleshoot infrastructure and networking issues.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes in production.
  • History of leading large, cross-functional engineering efforts and guiding technical direction across multiple teams.
