Structural Engineer - Steel Design & Fabrication
Job Description
Work onsite in Irvine, CA and help deliver steel structural systems for data center applications. This role focuses on end-to-end engineering support, from structural analysis and 3D modeling to detailing, fabrication coordination, and installation interfaces. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing and installation teams to turn designs into production-ready plans.
What you’ll do
- Design steel frames and support structures for data center infrastructure, including overhead equipment supports, piping supports, and cable tray support systems.
- Complete structural analysis and calculations to confirm load capacity, deflection, stability, and compliance with applicable seismic requirements.
- Design and evaluate steel elements such as beams, columns, and bracing, including welded and bolted connections, base plates, and anchorage.
- Create and review 3D models and produce or check structural drawings, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and bills of materials.
- Ensure designs reflect practical production needs, including fabrication tolerances, transportation, assembly, and field installation requirements.
- Coordinate with fabricators on material selection and execution details such as cutting, drilling, welding, and surface treatment.
- Resolve technical questions that arise during fabrication and installation.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and piping teams to address clashes and equipment interface requirements.
- Apply relevant project codes, standards, and quality requirements throughout the design process.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in steel structure design, including practical experience coordinating with fabrication.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, load paths, steel member design, and connection design.
- Experience preparing structural calculations and reviewing fabrication and installation drawings.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling and detailing tools, such as Tekla Structures, Autodesk Advance Steel, or Revit, plus familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software appropriate to the work.
