Substation Project Engineer

This onsite role in Sacramento, CA focuses on delivering high-voltage substation engineering for EPC projects. The Substation Project Engineer helps Ampirical maintain QA/QC standards while supporting timely, high-quality delivery through peer and subcontractor review.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with alliance clients, communicating clearly and confidently with clients, internal teams, and third parties while responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
• Lead and direct detailed design for high to EHV utility substations, including one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, and selection and specification of substation equipment.
• Develop and review construction documentation and estimates, supporting general arrangement, equipment and electrical layout, grounding, outdoor bus design, and protection and controls.
• Perform and manage project job walk-downs, define the scope of work, preside over design package review meetings, and provide construction support.
• Manage and develop proposal and bid materials including project schedules and bill of materials for assigned substation projects.
• Conduct quality reviews of engineering deliverables for internal work and subcontractors on assigned projects.
• Define and apply processes and procedures, perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis), implement corrective actions, and validate process control.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in the engineering/design of electrical systems within the Utilities or Energy industries.
• 2+ years of experience managing projects, delegating work, directing others, and planning substation projects.
• Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and IEEE 88/998.
• Technical Project Management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active PE or ability to acquire a PE within one year of employment.
• Project Management Professional (PMP).
• Experience working with PG&E.

Compensation: $130,000 to $202,000 per year.
