Supervising Engineer (Distribution)
Job Description
WSB seeks a Supervising Engineer (Distribution) to lead the firm’s electric distribution engineering practice from Davenport, FL with remote capabilities. This role blends technical leadership for overhead and underground distribution work with people management to build a scalable, standards-driven practice. The successful candidate will define engineering standards, develop staff, support utility client growth, and guide delivery across multiple projects.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale the Distribution Engineering team, including recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, training, and workforce planning.
- Serve as WSB's subject matter expert for overhead and underground electric distribution design, including line extensions, feeder upgrades, reconductoring, storm hardening, undergrounding, reliability improvements, joint-use/make-ready, DER interconnections, and EV infrastructure.
- Establish scalable engineering standards, design templates, QA/QC procedures, field-collection requirements, construction package standards, and utility-specific delivery processes.
- Lead technical reviews, constructability reviews, field issue resolution, and client-standard compliance, including NESC and applicable utility requirements.
- Manage project scope, schedule, staffing, deliverables, and client expectations across multiple distribution engineering assignments.
- Support strategic account growth by leading technical portions of proposals, scopes, estimates, interviews, and pursuit strategy for utility, cooperative, municipal, and contractor clients.
- Attend client meetings and provide updates on project scope, progress, and technical issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Oversee daily operations including managing team assignments, resolving operational issues, and ensuring team goals and plans are met and implemented.
- Maintain adherence to quality standards and administrative policies, including time sheets and expense reports.
- Lead people through coaching and development, effective performance management, and hiring.
- Support client relationships through project delivery, responsive communication, and follow-through on commitments.
- Demonstrate a client-service mindset by addressing needs, resolving issues, and maintaining client satisfaction.
- Identify and share potential opportunities or leads with leadership and follow company standards for documenting pursuits and updates.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 7+ years of electric utility distribution engineering experience, including overhead and underground design and utility standards implementation.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
