Job Description

Neuralink is looking for an experienced UI Design Engineer to conceptualize, prototype, and ship novel computing interfaces for BCI, in collaboration with study participants and domain experts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, build, and ship novel computing interfaces for BCI
  • Partner with study participants to iterate on and further refine these interfaces
  • Collaborate with domain experts in neuroscience, machine learning, and implant engineering to improve precision and fluidity within Neuralink’s constraint-space

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end experience designing and shipping features, including concept, prototyping, release, and iteration
  • Proficiency with Apple frameworks such as SwiftUI, UIKit/AppKit, and/or Metal, or an equivalent transferable stack (e.g., React, Three.js, WebGPU)
  • Familiarity with Objective-C, C, and/or C++

Technologies

  • SwiftUI
  • UIKit
  • AppKit
  • Metal
  • React
  • Three.js
  • WebGPU
  • Objective-C
  • C
  • C++

Role Focus

  • Explore an open-ended, multi-disciplinary, constrained design space where choices are informed by neural structure, model architecture, radio bandwidth, and more
  • Develop an intuitive sense for the right fidelity to pursue, from conversation and rough sketches to testable prototypes
  • Work within and push the boundaries of a new medium of interaction that does not rely on traditional sensory feedback from physical input devices
  • Empathize with people who experience interaction differently and design systems that feel compelling beyond the “works” baseline
  • Maintain a strong point-of-view while iterating with discipline through testing, deleting, and learning from ideas that do not work

About Neuralink

  • Creating devices enabling a bi-directional interface with the brain
  • Devices aim to restore movement for people with paralysis, restore sight for people who are blind, and change how humans interact with digital systems

Team Description

  • The BCI Applications Team builds Telepathy.app, software that helps people with paralysis use computing devices with precision and ease through thought alone
  • Team includes expertise spanning neuroscience, machine learning, software engineering, and interface design
