Shive-Hattery is a leading architecture and engineering consulting firm based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with 16 offices across the United States. The Cedar Rapids office is seeking a Licensed Electrical Engineer with at least five years of experience. This professional role serves as the lead electrical engineer on building and site projects, mainly providing electrical expertise for industrial projects. The position involves collaborating with a team to produce design documents, contracts, technical drawings, code research, Revit models, and other deliverables essential to electrical design services.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design and production efforts on projects, primarily for industrial facilities, including power distribution, LED and custom lighting design, Life Safety Systems, and data/communications.
- Direct the electrical design and production process for projects.
- Engage with clients on projects and work both independently and within the electrical team.
- Coordinate across disciplines on various projects to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to early career engineers and designers during the design and production phases.
- Prepare specifications and conduct code research.
- Travel to project locations to collect details about current conditions.
- Visit construction sites to help ensure quality, monitor progress, verify compliance with the electrical design contract, and perform construction observation tasks.
- Manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail.
- Work in diverse markets including Industrial, Institutional, Commercial, Education, Government, and Healthcare facilities.
- Participate in marketing and business development initiatives aimed at regional, national, and local growth for targeted clients.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school; or a degree in Architectural Engineering with an electrical engineering emphasis.
- 5+ years of professional experience.
- Professional Engineer license with the State of Iowa, or the ability to obtain the license within a year.
- Experience in the design of lighting, power, and low-voltage systems for buildings and sites.
- Experience in 3D modeling, with Revit preferred.
- Practical experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills and good interpersonal abilities.
- For certain clients, the ability to undergo drug and/or alcohol testing prior to work at the client site or on the project.
