Licensed Professional Engineer
Job Description
Admiral Heating & Ventilating seeks a Licensed Professional HVAC Design Engineer to lead the development, review, and approval of mechanical systems for commercial projects in Chicago. This onsite role blends technical leadership with mentoring responsibilities and oversees projects from concept through construction, ensuring designs comply with state and local codes as well as ASHRAE, IMC, and NFPA standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead and validate mechanical HVAC system designs, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Produce and certify drawings, specifications, and calculations per applicable codes and standards.
- Run system load analyses, select equipment, and evaluate energy performance.
- Manage the full project lifecycle from concept through construction.
- Collaborate with architectural, electrical, civil, and structural teams.
- Conduct field inspections and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
- Ensure designs meet state and local building codes and industry standards, including ASHRAE, IMC, and NFPA.
- Offer technical guidance and QA oversight for junior engineers.
- Attend project meetings, client briefings, and design reviews.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, materials, and trends in mechanical system design.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems for commercial HVAC, including ducts and piping.
- Proficiency with HAP and E20 software.
- Strong AutoCAD skills for preparing and reviewing detailed drawings.
- Experience with design-build delivery, construction administration, or BIM coordination.
- LEED accreditation or demonstrated experience with sustainable design practices.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including executives.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering MEP
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois
- 7+ years of experience required; 10+ preferred

- Proficiency in HAP, E20, and AutoCAD suite software
- Fluent with Microsoft Office Suite
Compensation and Benefits
- Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
- Bonus and Profit Sharing up to 30% of base salary
