Agriculture Engineer

Amalgamated Sugar Company has an onsite opportunity in Boise, ID for an Agricultural Engineer focused on designing and improving machinery that supports harvest operations. The role contributes to product development for equipment used in receiving and handling sugarbeets, including unloading from growers’ trucks and stockpiling them as “pilers,” with additional field support at remote receiving sites.

This position supports multiple engineering efforts end to end, from evaluating conceptual alternatives with operations teams to managing project design work such as scopes, budgets, procurement coordination, construction oversight, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Develop solutions by taking conceptual alternatives provided by operations functions through the product development process to improve efficiency and reduce labor.
• Improve machinery functionality through design updates for both new and existing equipment, supporting operators, maintenance personnel, and delivery trucks.
• Provide project design support by managing multiple projects, including developing scopes of work, cost estimates, budgets, and project proposals, and overseeing procurement, construction, and commissioning.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Agricultural Engineering.
• Demonstrated skills with SolidWorks and PDMWorks.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Experience and Additional Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering experience in a related field, including OEM equipment design.
• Experience or familiarity with agricultural or mining machinery and equipment.
• Experience or familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication methods.
• Excellent communication skills across organizational levels to convey, discuss, and implement technical applications and information effectively.

Education

• Bachelors or better in Engineering or a related field.
