Applications Engineer - HVAC Controls
Job Description
Applications Engineer for HVAC Building Automation Systems responsible for submittals, estimates, and installation prints; provides technical design expertise for BAS projects and collaborates with sales, engineering and project management.
Responsibilities
- Design BAS control systems and produce control drawings aligned with contract specifications for building HVAC systems.
- Provide technical support to LONG installers and technicians on site and in the office.
- Assist the sales team during bids and proposals, including equipment selection, pricing, and submittals.
- Specify and select HVAC BAS solutions in accordance with project specs, codes, and industry standards.
- Size valves and perform low voltage load calculations using standard software tools.
- Create detailed installation prints within project scope, budget, and schedule parameters.
- Coordinate with project management to ensure timely, on-budget project execution that meets customer needs.
- Support installation and commissioning activities with technical guidance.
- Conduct site visits to gather information for BAS designs and equipment selection.
- Deliver technical training on HVAC system design, application, and installation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other engineers and departments to improve product design and quality.
- Prepare system documentation for the submittal process.
- Work professionally and efficiently with project personnel across teams.
- Stay current with modern HVAC and BAS technologies and components.
- Support bidding, design, and execution of various jobs and projects within the department.
- Travel may be required based on business unit and location needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical or related field) or 2+ years of temperature controls engineering and design experience with an Associate degree in Mechanical or related field.
- Ability to legally drive a motor vehicle.
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of HVAC equipment, controls, building automation, and construction procedures.
- Knowledge of HVAC industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication across all organizational levels.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent documentation and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret mechanical plans and specifications.
- Working knowledge of computer-aided drafting software.
- Experience with Visio and AutoCAD.
- Experience with product lines such as Tridium, KMC, and Distech.
- Knowledge or experience sizing and selecting control valves, relay logic, and ladder diagrams.
