New Empire Corp is hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineer (MEP) to lead HVAC and mechanical systems design for high-rise residential buildings across New York City. This onsite role in Brooklyn, NY 11220 supports landmark projects and combines design ownership with active construction-phase involvement. The compensation range is $130,000 to $180,000 per year, based on experience.
What you’ll do
You will drive mechanical (HVAC) system design for high-rise residential and mixed-use buildings, ensuring systems are sized, optimized, and coordinated for real-world installation.
- Lead HVAC design, including central plant, distribution systems, risers, and zoning strategies.
- Perform load calculations and support system optimization for energy efficiency and performance.
- Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural teams from design through construction.
- Create and review construction documents, specifications, and mechanical drawings using BIM with Revit preferred.
- Ensure compliance with the NYC Mechanical Code, ASHRAE 90.1, and applicable building regulations.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and resolve field coordination issues during construction.
- Support the commissioning process and system testing during construction closeout.
- Participate in value engineering to reduce cost while maintaining performance and comfort standards.
- Conduct site visits to verify installation quality and address field issues.
What you bring
- Minimum 15 years of mechanical engineering experience in building systems.
- Strong experience in high-rise residential HVAC design.
- Proficiency with HVAC design tools such as Trane Trace, HAP, or an equivalent.
- Strong understanding of NYC Mechanical Code and ASHRAE standards (including ASHRAE 90.1).
- BIM coordination experience ( Revit MEP preferred ).
- Ability to manage complex coordination across multiple disciplines.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with NYC high-rise residential or luxury condominium projects.
- Familiarity with central plant systems, VRF systems, and energy-efficient building strategies.
- Experience working with developers, architects, and construction teams in fast-paced environments.
- PE license preferred, not required.
