Job Description
Deloitte is hiring an Applied AI Engineer II through the Encore program in New York, NY (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Drive a culture of accountability for customer and business outcomes, including the cost of delivering them
- Build engineering solutions for complex problems with measurable value using lean design and implementation
- Own inference, token, and cloud cost for what you build
- Act as a technical advocate to ensure code integrity, feasibility, and alignment to business and customer goals
- Participate end to end in requirement analysis, component design, development, testing, integrations, and support
- Maintain accountability for code design integrity, implementation fidelity to architecture and the tech stack, quality, data, and ongoing maintenance/operations
- Be hands-on and self-driven; continuously learn new approaches, languages, and frameworks
- Create technical specifications and write high-quality, supportable, scalable code while meeting or exceeding quality KPIs
- Deliver lean solutions through rapid, inexpensive experimentation to address customer needs
- Engage with customers and product teams before, during, and after delivery to ensure the right solution is shipped at the right time
- Adopt action and evidence over extensive planning; use a leaning-forward approach to navigate uncertainty with maintainable solutions
- Collaborate with empowered, cross-functional teams including product management, experience, and delivery
- Integrate diverse perspectives to balance feasibility, viability, usability, and value
- Build and improve team synergy and innovation through collaboration
- Apply modern software engineering practices, including AI and Agentic SSDLC, to enable daily deployments with full automation from discovery to production to operations with quality checks across the SSDLC lifecycle
- Learn to role model these techniques to optimize solutioning and delivery
- Grow domain knowledge quickly to support the business or product
- Translate business/user needs and UX/UI designs into technical specifications and code
- Support teammates, focus on quality, and drive tech debt payoff
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively; influence through evidence-based trade-off discussions
- Create coherent technical narratives aligned to business objectives
- Collaborate with product engineering teams across organizational levels, including customers as needed
- Maintain constructive co-creation relationships and build shared momentum toward product goals

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, machine learning, or related discipline (experience is the most relevant factor)
- 3+ years of experience with most of the following: Angular, React, NodeJS, Python, C#, .NET, Java, SQL/NoSQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LangGraph, and unit testing frameworks
- 2+ years building AI/ML and agentic applications, including hands-on GenAI experience across LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models), RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, vector databases, evaluations, and AI agent orchestration
- 2+ years cloud-native engineering using FaaS, PaaS, or micro-services on Azure, AWS, or GCP, including AI/ML services such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or Vertex AI
- Application-level infrastructure-as-code and cost-aware engineering with FinOps accountability
- Prior software engineering experience including understanding Business Context Diagrams (BCD), sequence/activity/state/entity relationship/data flow diagrams, OOP/OOD, data structures, algorithms, and AI-augmented spec-driven development
- Experience with methodologies and tools such as XP, Lean, DevSecOps, SRE, ADO, GitHub, SonarQube, MLflow, and agentic AI frameworks (for example LangFuse, LangSmith, or equivalent multi-agent orchestration tools) to deliver high-quality products rapidly
- Ability to travel 10% on average
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
- Candidates must be located within a commutable distance to one of the select locations for this role
- Ability to work in the local office at a minimum of 3 days per week

Salary range: USD 102,500 - 188,900 per year
Minimum experience: 3 years
