Job Description

Join Control Works, Inc. as an Automation Engineer on an onsite team in Saint Charles, IL. This exempt salaried role combines hands-on field service with full project ownership, including software development and control system readiness before customer installation. What you’ll do

The Automation Engineer provides project management from project scope through client installation, while writing software that controls machinery. The mix of field service and project management can vary based on available work. Site visits are part of determining overall scope, building project timelines, and coordinating the path from development to shipping and installation.

  • Manage projects from scope definition through client installation, including site visits to confirm overall scope
  • Develop and follow project timelines, coordinate electrical schematic development, and complete final quality checks of the control system before shipping
  • Provide installation services after the project has shipped
  • Write software to control machinery using ladder logic and text-based programming languages (including Allen Bradley, B&R, Beckhoff, and Ignition)
  • Perform field service troubleshooting, including diagnosing electrical issues in the field
  • Complete other duties or responsibilities as assigned

Required skills and qualifications

  • BS in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Software). Other disciplines may be considered based on abilities
  • Knowledge of general PC applications, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to write software in Ladder Logic and text-based programming languages
  • Experience with electrical diagraming tools such as AutoCAD Electrical and/or See Electrical
  • Ability to think critically and creatively
  • Ability to work independently and make site decisions
  • Physically able to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb onto machinery as required

Logistics, salary, and role details

  • Work location: In person (onsite)
  • Exempt salaried position
  • Typical schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 40 hours per week, though based on workload and deadlines (project/deadline oriented, not time based)
  • Supervision: Immediate supervisors are the company owners; this position does not require supervision of any employees
  • Travel: In-state and out-of-state travel may be required depending on work requirements
  • Pay: $84,286.81 - $105,000.00 per year
