Chief Engineer
Job Description
The Chief Engineer oversees the day-to-day operations of the engineering division at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver. In the absence of the Director, this role also assumes administrative, financial, and operating responsibilities for engineering-related hotel functions. Based in Denver, CO on an onsite schedule, the position plays a central part in maintaining safe, reliable building systems while supporting guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Help develop and implement plans to keep the property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in safe, acceptable repair.
- Ensure the hotel complies with all local, state, and federal laws.
- Supervise and train Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures, and Loss Prevention.
- Create and post Engineering staff schedules.
- Create and adhere to the department’s annual budget.
- Assist in developing financial forecasts and participate in monthly profit and loss review meetings.
- Create and implement a preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
- Ensure emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified according to Highgate Hotel standards.
- Participate in energy conservation programs.
- Review guest and meeting planner comment cards and ensure issues are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Assist with administration of vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.
- Ensure room maintenance requests are handled promptly and with courtesy.
- Follow up on all alarms immediately to identify location and cause, determine emergency status, report findings to the Front Desk, and take immediate action as needed.
- Assist with special projects and renovations as necessary.
- Support and participate in all Highgate Hotel programs.
- Participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of progressive facilities management experience in a hotel or related field; or a 2-year college degree plus 1 year of related management experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Stationary Engineer’s license if required by local code.
- HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance skills required.
- Long hours may be required.
- Heavy work requirements: occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and/or constantly up to 20 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Maintain a warm, friendly demeanor at all times.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with employees and guests at all levels.
- Listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
- Multitask and prioritize to meet departmental deadlines.
- Attend all required hotel meetings and trainings.
- Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
- Maintain regular attendance in line with Highgate Hotel Standards, based on scheduling needs.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations for safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Handle problems by anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving them as necessary.
- Understand and evaluate complex information and data from various sources to meet objectives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
