Cold Spray Product Engineer

Mid-America Aerotech (MAA) is looking for a Cold Spray Product Engineer to support cold spray developmental and production operations. This role emphasizes research and development for government programs, internal MAA R&D efforts, and commercial research activities, while partnering closely with engineering and production teams.

The position reports to the Senior Engineer and is responsible for ensuring engineering work follows established standards and meets company requirements across internal and external processes.

Role focus and scope

• Support all cold spray developmental and production operations with an emphasis on R&D.
• Collaborate extensively with MAA engineering and production staff to move programs forward.
• Ensure engineering activities, including internal and external processes, are completed in accordance with established standards and company requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and oversee research and development programs as required by MAA management.
• Test additive manufacturing technology, specifically cold spray.
• Identify opportunities to improve cold spray technology and expand technical understanding.
• Create technical documentation required by MAA processes or directed by customers.
• Publish and disseminate findings through conferences, meetings, publishing reports, and advising decision-makers.
• Develop and enable execution of new repair procedures using cold spray technologies.
• Maintain work records following MAA standard practices and guidance, including the MAA FAA Repair Station Manual.
• Support equipment calibration and maintenance requirements.
• Program and operate robotic equipment to accomplish tasks.
• Prepare cost estimates and analyze cost parameters.
• Build prototypes, products, and systems for testing.
• Design testing procedures and coordinate to identify problems and solutions.
• Collaborate on standards for procedures and component requirements.
• Coordinate and communicate work efforts.
• Support or lead teams of engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• Cold spray or thermal spray experience (plasma spray, HVOF, flame spray, etc.) or additive manufacturing desired.
• Familiarity with robot operation and programming desired.
• General computer skills, plus engineering-specific applications as required.
• Ability to read and interpret technical data, including drawings and technical orders from military and civilian sources.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of established aviation maintenance, overhaul, and repair practices.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering discipline.

Position details

• Location: West Fargo, ND (onsite, in person)
• Employment type: Full-time
• Compensation: USD 60,000 to 80,000 per year
• Exempt status: Exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act; not subject to DOT 49 CFR Part 40, and FAA 14 CFR Part 120 Drug and Alcohol Policy
