Job Description
Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc is seeking a Controls Engineer to support automation and control system integration work across multiple industries. Based in Charlotte, NC on onsite, this role contributes to projects that span manufacturing production lines and data center building automation, with opportunities to function as technical lead and, on smaller efforts, project manager.
This position focuses on translating process system requirements into working control solutions, including logic software and hardware, panel design, PLC programming, and documentation that supports commissioning, start-up, and customer training.
Role Overview
- Designs, develops, and implements control systems (logic software and hardware) to meet process system requirements.
- Develops control system schematics, including control configuration and wiring, and creates equipment panel layouts in AutoCAD.
- Creates a Sequence of Operation document that outlines control strategies for the process under control.
- Leads design reviews with customers to support review and approval of design documents.
- Performs system checkout and supports integrated control system start-up while working at the customer site.
- Develops final record system documentation and provides system training to the customer.
Project and Leadership Responsibilities
- Works on automation and control system integration projects for clients across multiple industries.
- Acts as technical lead, guiding lower level engineers and technicians.
- Acts as Project Manager on smaller projects ranging from $50K to $250K.
- Develops and executes implementation plans for the project.
- Assigns work to meet overall project deadlines and ensures project team members understand W-M responsibilities.
- Develops schedules for W-M and customer requirements, evaluates progress, and documents changes.
- Manages purchasing and subcontractor requirements.
- Develops costs and proposes change orders to the contract scope.
Qualifications
- 3 years minimum experience; BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Three to five years of experience in areas including control systems, logic programming, instrumentation and controls design, and PLC systems experience (e.g., Allen Bradley, Schnieder Modicon, Siemens, GE-IP).
- AutoCAD experience desired.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate and work with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ability to travel up to 50% or relocate.
- Physical abilities include seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
