Dematic is seeking a Controls Engineer (Early - Mid Career) to join the Customer Service Modernizations & Upgrades team. This on site role in Grand Rapids, Michigan offers a salary range of USD 82,500 to 133,100 per year and requires 2 to 8 years of controls engineering experience. The role emphasizes proficiency in project planning, schematic and electrical layout drawing, PLCs and HMIs, and implementation and commissioning, with travel up to 40 percent. A four year degree or equivalent in a related discipline is required.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design of moderately complex systems that integrate hardware and software.
- Develop PLC software for these systems following standard practices.
- Support semi-complex material specifications, create schematics, develop bill of materials, and handle follow-up tasks.
- Propose ideas to boost productivity, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Independently manage semi-complex projects through the lifecycle, including design, documentation, and forecasting.
- Facilitate complex technical exchanges and transfer knowledge on processes and product applications for system designs.
- Troubleshoot on-site programming and electrical issues.
- Serve as a direct on-site contact with customers.
Requirements
- Hands-on PLC experience with preference for Allen-Bradley, Schneider Unity, or Siemens TIA Portal.
- Working understanding of designing and deploying networks such as Profibus, ASi, and Ethernet.
- Experience documenting operations and developing control-based physical layouts.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.
- Proven ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Recent experience with on-site startup and commissioning.
- Experience with material handling systems is preferred.
- 2 to 8 years of related field experience and demonstrated responsibilities as described.
- An advanced degree may substitute for experience where applicable.
- Travel typically ranges from 25 to 40 percent, may involve weekends and holidays.
