Job Description

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking a Cybersecurity Automation Engineer to fortify security operations through robust automation across both on‑premises and cloud environments. In this role, you will act as a senior technical authority, guiding automation initiatives, integrating security tooling, and shaping playbooks that improve response times and reduce toil. The position is based in Washington, DC, onsite, and calls for hands-on leadership in building scalable, auditable automation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure and configuration automation to deploy, harden, and sustain enterprise security platforms at scale using configuration-management and orchestration tooling.
  • Build and maintain integrations between security and IT tools via REST/Graph APIs and custom Python to automate data exchange, enrichment, and workflow handoffs.
  • Develop, test, and operate SOAR playbooks that automate triage, enrichment, containment, and response actions in coordination with the SOC.
  • Apply software‑engineering discipline to automation artifacts, including source control, peer code review, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable, auditable, and repeatable delivery.
  • Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot production automation, managing versioning, dependencies, and secret-handling lifecycles to keep workflows secure and current.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority and escalation point for automation issues, leading projects end‑to‑end and directing the work of supporting contractor staff.
  • Collaborate with the SOC, logging and observability teams, network operations, cloud infrastructure teams, and product vendors to scope, integrate, and improve automation capabilities.
  • Engineer automation across hybrid environments, including serverless and AI-assisted cloud workflows where appropriate.
  • Translate manual, repetitive operational tasks into resilient automated workflows to reduce toil and accelerate mean time to respond.
