Job Description

ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co. KG is hiring a Data Engineer & BI Analyst to strengthen the company’s data foundation for business reporting, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision-making. This onsite role in Virginia Beach focuses on building and maintaining the infrastructure behind Power BI reporting, supporting reliable data pipelines, and collaborating with business stakeholders to translate data needs into scalable solutions.

You will design end-to-end data pipeline components, structure Power BI semantic models, and debug issues across ingestion, transformation, and reporting layers. With strong engineering fundamentals and clear communication, you will help diagnose root causes, improve performance, and increase reliability across the data environment.

Role Summary

  • Build and maintain infrastructure that powers critical business reporting, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision-making across the company.
  • Design data pipelines, structure Power BI semantic models, and support advanced analytics through scalable data engineering practices.
  • Debug and resolve issues across ingestion, transformation, and reporting layers.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify data needs and communicate technical concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines using Databricks, Delta Live Tables, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Structure and manage Power BI semantic models using Tabular Editor and deployment pipelines.
  • Diagnose and resolve data issues across multiple systems, including ADF, Databricks, and Power BI.
  • Use strong debugging skills to identify root causes of data mismatches, pipeline failures, and performance issues.
  • Partner with stakeholders across business functions to clarify data requirements and communicate technical topics.
  • Support continuous improvement of data infrastructure by identifying and implementing scalable solutions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a data engineering, BI engineering, or similar technical role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience building pipelines with Databricks and/or Azure Data Factory.
  • Python proficiency for data manipulation and transformation.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI, including dataset design, relationships, and refresh behavior.
  • Experience working in Git-based workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug issues spanning ingestion, transformation, and reporting layers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills, including sharing knowledge, coordinating effectively, and communicating blockers early.
  • Ability to prioritize and problem-solve in ambiguous or high-pressure situations.
  • Proactive approach to improving reliability, performance, and maintainability of existing systems.
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, or emerging data technologies, particularly where they intersect with analytics and reporting.
  • Experience designing and developing AI solutions using common industry cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Databricks, AWS, or Fabric.
  • Knowledge of Power BI Premium capacity and refresh management.
  • Exposure to metadata-driven frameworks and config-based pipeline logic.
  • Familiarity with Unity Catalog, Terraform, or other emerging Databricks tools.
  • Experience with automation, optimization, and reducing manual overhead in analytics systems.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Virginia Beach, VA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 101,000 - 123,000 per year
