Job Description
Mattel is seeking a Data Engineer II to own the analytics backbone for its mobile free-to-play portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Set up and run the partner-managed ETL platform to ingest and transform telemetry from mobile games
- Manage the silver and gold data layers in BigQuery using SQL and orchestration tools, applying analytical schemas
- Improve BigQuery performance and cost efficiency through partitioning, clustering, materialized views, and query tuning
- Create curated data marts as data products with defined owners, documentation, and SLAs to support Mixpanel dashboards and empower analysts to self-serve on retention, monetization, and engagement metrics
- Migrate legacy Airflow pipelines to the partner platform for existing and licensed titles while preserving live reporting
- Collaborate with game studios and Data Analysts to define tracking plans, including events, properties, validation rules, and data contracts to insulate downstream consumers from upstream change
- Build data quality and observability mechanisms to shorten time-to-detect and time-to-recover for telemetry issues before they impact reporting
- Contribute to engineering practices such as code review, documentation standards, onboarding, and leverage AI/LLM tooling to accelerate SQL authoring, validation, and documentation

- Hands-on knowledge of Google Cloud Platform native tooling
- Track record building data quality and observability systems with validation, anomaly detection, SLAs, and operational hygiene
- Solid production engineering practices including version control, code review, CI/CD, and environment management for data pipelines
- Comfort operating within a partner-managed ETL framework and coordinating across studio, analytics, and infrastructure teams
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with a high-ownership working style and comfort in ambiguous problem spaces
- Working knowledge of privacy and compliance fundamentals
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
