Job Description

The Diesel Application Engineer at Rogers Machinery Company Inc provides advanced solutions for integrating OEM diesel engine systems into complex industrial equipment. The role operates with limited supervision from the department manager and contributes to design release, validation, and customer-facing project execution.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: USD 95,000 - 125,000 per year
  • Pay Range: $95,000 - $125,000 for Senior Level

Summary of the Role

This position ensures proper installation, functionality, and operation of diesel-powered applications. Responsibilities include defining system scope, building engine-to-system integration layouts, managing installation and validation documentation, supporting certifications and emissions compliance, and leading customer-aligned project management efforts across simultaneous workstreams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define product scope using sales order details, rough sketches, or verbal instructions.
  • Develop and validate engine-to-system integration layouts, including cooling, intake, exhaust/aftertreatment, fuel, lubrication, and control systems.
  • Match diesel engines to driven equipment by evaluating power curves, duty cycles, load requirements, and environmental conditions.
  • Create and manage installation documents, electrical schematics, and validation procedures.
  • Apply expertise in diesel control systems, including ECM/ECU calibration basics, CANbus communication, J1939 protocols, and system diagnostics.
  • Integrate ECM/ECU with machine-level control systems, including CANbus communication, safety interlocks, and operational logic.
  • Perform system-level performance analysis to confirm thermal management, vibration, and acoustics meet design criteria.
  • Support emissions knowledge and certification testing across EPA Tier 4 Final, EU Stage V, and CARB requirements.
  • Troubleshoot engine operation within equipment, including load response, transient performance, and fault detection.
  • Manage BOMs, validation reports, and diesel-product compliance requirements.
  • Support design release activities, submittals, certification testing, and production release.
  • Lead customer-facing project management aligned with sales order timelines and coordinate simultaneous projects for sustaining and new product development.
  • Promote diesel system integration best practices as a technical ambassador.
  • Support production and field commissioning for diesel engine installations.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting of diesel systems, including related electrical and controls.
  • Define retrofit kits, system upgrades, and modifications to improve performance or lifecycle.
  • Support sales, service, cost estimates, design consultation, and installation activities.
  • Identify alternate integration methods or components to reduce cost, lead time, or supply risk.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior team members and supporting departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (BSME preferred).
  • Experience: 7+ years in diesel applications, system integration, or related mechanical/electrical design.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engine performance, duty cycles, and system-level operation.
  • Hands-on experience integrating diesel subsystems, including cooling, fuel, exhaust/aftertreatment, intake, lubrication, and electrical/controls.
  • Driver’s license: Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 10% to job sites.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced 3D CAD modeling (CREO, Windchill, or equivalent), including assembly work and detailed drawings.
  • Background in thermal, vibration, and acoustic system analysis.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a customer-first focus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
