Job Description

Interstate McBee’s Cleveland facility is seeking a Diesel Fuel Injector Remanufacturing Engineer to lead the end-to-end remanufacturing of diesel injectors, ensuring they meet OEM specifications and performance standards. This onsite, full‑time role blends mechanical and manufacturing engineering with quality practices to boost reliability, optimize processes, and reduce costs across the remanufacturing line. The engineer will oversee disassembly through testing, develop SOPs, and collaborate with design, quality assurance, and production teams while staying current with diesel injection technology trends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the disassembly, inspection, reconditioning, assembly, and testing processes of diesel fuel injectors.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and work instructions for remanufacturing.
  • Design or specify specialized tooling, fixtures, and test equipment required for remanufacturing.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of test equipment and tools; calibrate and maintain testing instruments and troubleshoot faults.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to address defects and pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Perform root cause analysis on failed components or assemblies and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze data to improve performance, cycle time, and yield of remanufactured products.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to technicians and assembly personnel.
  • Stay current with diesel injection technology trends and remanufacturing best practices.
  • Ensure efficient and economical utilization of materials and elimination of wasteful practices; maintain proper maintenance of machinery and facilities and communicate corrective actions as needed.
  • Be available for alternate shifts and extended hours as required to meet production and process release needs; participate in meetings as needed.
  • Perform other work as directed and work across departments; maintain excellent hand/eye coordination and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Office and factory floor-based work with occasional field testing.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of testing experience in diesel fuel injection systems; familiarity with industry-standard teardown, assembly, and testing equipment is required.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engine components, especially fuel injection systems (common rail, unit injectors, etc.).
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project).
  • Experience with test equipment including pressure and flow measurement devices, injector testers, and data logging systems.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools or software for fuel system analysis is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to perform under pressure; creative problem-solver who collaborates effectively and shares ideas toward shared goals.
  • Certification in diesel engine systems or fuel injection technologies is a plus; candidates who require reasonable accommodation will be considered for essential functions.
