Job Description

HFE International is seeking a Senior Powertrain Engineer in Atlanta, GA to support propulsion and powertrain testing, development, troubleshooting, and EFI calibration. The role also includes leading a group of test engineers and collaborating with internal and customer teams.

Role Overview

The purpose of this position is to test, develop, and troubleshoot propulsion systems for both the company and its customers. Responsibilities include dyno testing, EFI system map calibration, engine simulation, and diagnostics, with support for engine package design questions from customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engine systems and sub-systems, including design and development of new engines
  • Run engines on the dyno and calibrate EFI system maps
  • Create test plans and produce test reports
  • Interface with customers to address questions related to engine package design
  • Travel to customer sites to support engine diagnostics, with international travel commonly required
  • Diagnose failure modes
  • Perform propeller analysis and thermal analysis
  • Support documentation, drawings, and test reporting as requested
  • Conduct engine simulation and EFI calibration
  • Contribute to new product testing and evaluation
  • Manage and lead test engineers

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with engine designs, preferably 2 stroke
  • Experience with engine tuning and EFI calibration maps
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the scientific process
  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of combustion process and thermodynamics
  • Basic understanding of engines (2 stroke and 4 stroke)
  • MATLAB experience
  • Python experience
  • National Instruments data acquisition hardware and analysis experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of powertrain related experience

Education

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering (also stated: MS or PhD in Engineering or Physics)

Compensation

  • Salary range: USD 90,000 to 130,000 per year
  • Pay listing: $90,000.00 to $130,000.00 per year

Additional Notes and Disclaimers

  • Engine noise levels are within OSHA guidelines when the employee wears proper PPE while the engine is in operation.
  • Transporting documents and parts to customers and vendors in the Tucson area will not be compensated.
  • Travel outside of Tucson will be compensated using standard GSA approved travel and lodging rates.
