Project Engineer
Job Description
SlateUp is hiring an onsite Project Engineer in Mishawaka, IN with a clear focus on leading mold projects from design through production release. The role brings hands-on technical design work together with project management responsibilities, including coordination with outside tooling partners when needed. Along the way, you will support cross-functional teams and help keep projects moving with solid scope, schedule, and budget ownership.
Compensation for this position is $85,000.00 - $91,000.00 per year. Benefits include 401(k), health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, paid time off, retirement plan, and professional development assistance.
Responsibilities
- Participate in tooling build reviews to define mold build expectations and generate an internal tooling quote.
- Prepare external mold quote packages and communicate with outside sources.
- Manage outside tooling on assigned projects and report progress to the Engineering Manager.
- Design new product concepts using solid modeling software and produce fully detailed prints.
- Present concepts and project status to engineering and sales teams.
- Update part models and prints for approved ECNs.
- Verify design moldability or reverse engineer existing tooling using flow simulation software.
- Attend pre-quote meetings, analyze manufacturability, provide enhancement suggestions, and document issues to address.
- Generate part costs for quoted projects.
- Support Sales with renderings, prints, costs, prototypes, web page images, and engineering assistance.
- Review dimensional layouts and determine next steps for design, tooling, or print updates.
- Design fixtures, assembly machines, and gages, including producing fully detailed prints.
- Apply the Product Development Process based on project classification when developing new product.
- Generate and maintain project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring the team understands roles and responsibilities.
- Direct and provide technical input to the project team.
- Serve as a single point of contact for the customer or sales team on assigned projects.
- Coordinate technical procurement needs tied to assigned projects.
- Ensure design inputs and outputs are documented and achieved.
- Work with Quality and Sales to support product compliance for projects with specific listings and/or standards.
- Facilitate multi-disciplinary meetings to create approved verification tests associated with assigned projects.
- Generate and/or guide completion of work instructions for assigned projects.
- Plan and provide regular update meetings and documentation to keep the project team and/or customer current on status.
- Travel to customers, vendors, or partners as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering with product development leadership experience preferred, or 7 years of engineering experience with an emphasis in project management.
- Injection molding part design and mold design experience is very beneficial.
- Working knowledge of solid modeling, CAM, and flow simulation software is preferred.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts from trigonometry and geometry, including generally accepted CAD drawing formats.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage multiple abstract and concrete variables.
