Electrical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for commercial and government construction, covering power distribution, lighting, and life safety.
• Create electrical load calculations using spreadsheets and standard engineering software.
• Prepare and review construction drawings and BIM models with Revit and AutoCAD.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, and mechanical teams within a BIM environment.
• Perform independent site surveys to confirm field conditions, determine equipment locations and sizes, and document existing systems.
• Produce design documents, sketches, specifications, and as-built drawings for electrical systems.
• Address permit review, landlord review, and architectural coordination requests.
• Contribute to construction administration activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field support.
• Lead or assist in design coordination meetings with project teams and subcontractors.
• Perform quality control of electrical drawings and calculations.
• Support training and mentoring of junior engineers and designers.
• Maintain effective communication with project managers, construction teams, and clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited program.
• Eight or more years of electrical design experience supporting building construction or engineering consulting projects.
• Knowledge of IBC ( International Building Code )
• Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code)
• Familiarity with NFPA standards
• Familiarity with IECC (International Energy Conservation Code)
• Proven experience developing electrical load calculations, panel schedules, and power distribution designs.
• Ability to interpret existing construction drawings and assess field conditions.
• Experience conducting site visits and field verification.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and perform field inspections, including carrying equipment and working at heights.

VADD Construction Services seeks a motivated Electrical Design Engineer to support electrical system design and coordination for commercial, government, and infrastructure projects. The role requires robust experience in building system electrical design, collaboration across multidisciplinary construction teams, and proficiency with Revit-based BIM environments.

Preferred Certifications & Credentials

• Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Autodesk Certified Professional: Revit for Electrical Design
• Autodesk Certified Professional: Revit for Building Design
• Autodesk Certified User: Revit
• LEED Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional
• Experience with BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud

Additional Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with sustainable design standards and high-performance buildings
• Experience supporting design-build construction projects
• Experience with federal or government construction projects

Employment Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must successfully complete pre-employment background check and drug screening
• Certain projects may require additional federal or site-specific clearances
