Electrical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Electrical Design Engineer at VADD Construction Services will oversee electrical system design and cross-disciplinary coordination for commercial, government, and infrastructure projects in Barstow, Texas, using Revit-based BIM workflows to produce precise drawings, calculations, and specifications onsite.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for commercial and government construction, covering power distribution, lighting, and life safety.
- Create electrical load calculations using spreadsheets and standard engineering software.
- Prepare and review construction drawings and BIM models with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, and mechanical teams within a BIM environment.
- Perform independent site surveys to confirm field conditions, determine equipment locations and sizes, and document existing systems.
- Produce design documents, sketches, specifications, and as-built drawings for electrical systems.
- Address permit review, landlord review, and architectural coordination requests.
- Contribute to construction administration activities, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field support.
- Lead or assist in design coordination meetings with project teams and subcontractors.
- Perform quality control of electrical drawings and calculations.
- Support training and mentoring of junior engineers and designers.
- Maintain effective communication with project managers, construction teams, and clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited program.
- Eight or more years of electrical design experience supporting building construction or engineering consulting projects.
- Knowledge of IBC ( International Building Code )
- Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code)
- Familiarity with NFPA standards
- Familiarity with IECC (International Energy Conservation Code)
- Proven experience developing electrical load calculations, panel schedules, and power distribution designs.
- Ability to interpret existing construction drawings and assess field conditions.
- Experience conducting site visits and field verification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and perform field inspections, including carrying equipment and working at heights.

- Professional Engineer (PE) License

- LEED Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional
- Experience with BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud
Additional Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with sustainable design standards and high-performance buildings
- Experience supporting design-build construction projects
- Experience with federal or government construction projects

- Certain projects may require additional federal or site-specific clearances
