Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Join the National Security Agency in Fort Gordon, GA (onsite) as an Electrical Engineer supporting facilities design and electrical system control and monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Prepare design and construction cost estimates.
- Develop designs for new and renovated facilities.
- Produce engineering technical reports, specifications, and drawings.
- Provide construction detailing.
- Perform engineering analysis and calculations.
- Conduct code analysis.
- Support project management and facilities planning.
- Draft electrical plans and schematics.
Operational Support Focus
- Create systems and tools used to enhance the operation of intelligence.
- Advise, administer, and perform projects including planning, designing, and constructing specialized equipment.
- Ensure alignment with engineering standards and principles.

Monitoring and Control System Competencies (Desired)
- Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: SCADA and electrical control systems.
- Implementation of relays and data aggregators.
- Configuring and supporting Schweitzer Real Time Automation Controllers (RTAC).
- Evaluating and documenting PLC programs for electrical power control.
- Relay protection design.
- Applying network connectivity concepts and methods (routing, switching, tunneling, IP addressing).
Additional Desired Technical Knowledge
- Experience with technical software packages (examples listed): AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, ASPEN, AGI32, Visual Lighting, MEGAMAN.
- Generators and plant control systems.
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
- Electrical distribution design and equipment (high voltage, medium voltage, low voltage).
- Electrical power system grounding and signal grounding.
- Operation and design of SCADA and electrical control systems.
- Emergency power systems.
- Codes and standards including NEC, UL, IEEE, and NFPA.
- Electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Cost estimating, reliability and availability, startup and commissioning, and electrical operations & maintenance.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in an electrical engineering capacity (e.g., UPS, switchgear, SCADA, transformers, substations, power panels, switchboards, and metering of power).
- Degree must be a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
- If the program is not ABET accredited, it must include specified coursework.
- A degree in Engineering Technology will also be considered if it includes the specified coursework.
- Specified coursework includes differential and integral calculus and 5 of the following 18 areas: statics or dynamics; strength of materials/stress-strain relationships; fluid mechanics; hydraulics; thermodynamics; electromagnetic fields; nature and properties of materials/relating particle and aggregate structure to properties; solid state electronics; microprocessor applications; computer systems; signal processing; digital design.
- Experience using NEC code and computer aided design and drafting, including reading design drawings and cost estimation.
- Project management experience may be included.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Employment is contingent on successful completion of a security background investigation and polygraph.
- Random drug testing applies in accordance with Executive Order 12564.
- Required DCIPS trial period: two-year trial period (or one-year if veterans’ preference-eligible employee).

Pay, Work Schedule, and Trial Period
- Salary range: $105,262 - $153,082 (Full Performance)
- Schedule: full-time, Monday to Friday; basic 8hr/day between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (flexible)
- DCIPS trial period: two-year trial period (one-year if veterans’ preference-eligible)
