Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, and ongoing improvement of our biological safety cabinets and related equipment. This role collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure our products are reliable, compliant, and high performing.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and implement projects focused on reliability, manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and adherence to applicable codes and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare product documentation including electrical and electronic schematics; create specifications for outsourcing all related parts and components; generate and review manufacturing and assembly drawings and diagrams; prepare cost evaluations for management; assist with obtaining required Standard Agency (NRTL) approvals.
  • Provide electrical and electronic support by analyzing electrical problems, answering electrical questions for other departments and customers, offering expertise in electrical testing procedures, and issuing ECRs/ECNs for product improvement.
  • Research, qualify, and implement replacements for obsolete or unobtainable production released components.
  • Focus on delivering high quality units to satisfy customers, and add value through Lean tools to identify and eliminate waste in areas such as scrap, rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, overproduction, over processing, and under-utilization of people. Apply systemic thinking to view processes end-to-end and challenge the status quo to address root causes of problems. Participate in individual and team activities utilizing Lean tools to improve information and material flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work for extended periods on a computer (up to 100% of a workday)
  • Must be able to lift materials and parts weighing 30–40 lbs on an occasional basis (10–20% of the time)
  • Must be able to work on elevated stands, climb stepladders, work overhead, and stand for periods (25%–35% of the time)

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering
  • Ability to work on projects with limited supervision
  • Team player with good collaboration skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Proficient computer skills, especially MS Office
  • Competent with basic test and measurement equipment

Additional Desirable Skills

  • Hands-on wiring and assembly capabilities
  • Experience with third-party testing organizations
  • Higher level programming experience
  • Board-level and equipment design experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Sheet metal experience
