Electrical Engineer - Biosafety Cabinets
Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will contribute to the design, development, and ongoing enhancement of biological safety cabinets and related equipment at The Baker Company. This onsite role in Sanford, Maine, requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least five years of relevant experience, with collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and execute design projects emphasizing reliability, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure adherence to applicable codes and regulatory standards throughout development.
- Draft electrical and electronic schematics and develop specifications for outsourcing components.
- Produce and review manufacturing and assembly drawings and diagrams.
- Prepare cost analyses for management decisions and obtain required NRTL approvals.
- Diagnose electrical issues and provide technical guidance to other departments and customers.
- Contribute expertise in electrical testing procedures and manage ECRs and ECNs for product improvements.
- Research, qualify, and implement replacements for obsolete or unobtainable production components.
- Support a customer-focused approach to ensure unit quality and satisfaction.
- Apply Lean tools to identify and eliminate waste across processes, including scrap, rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, overproduction, and under-utilization of personnel.
- Think systemically to evaluate end-to-end processes and challenge root causes to improve solutions.
- Participate in individual and team Lean activities aimed at improving information and material flow.
- Performe other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of five years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Ability to work independently on projects without supervision.
- Team player with collaborative skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Good computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office.
- Competence with basic electrical test and measurement equipment.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work for extended periods on a computer, up to 100% of the workday
- Must be able to lift materials and parts weighing 30–40 lbs on occasion (10–20% of the time)
- Must be able to work on elevated stands, climb ladders, perform overhead tasks, and stand for extended periods (25–35% of the time)
