Electrical Operations Engineer
Job Description
Electrical Operations Engineer role onsite in Syracuse, NY, focused on designing, building and commissioning electrical systems for advanced semiconductor facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate third‑party design firms in electrical systems development, providing input on system architecture including medium and low voltage distribution, grounding, surge protection, and equipment layout.
- Review third‑party deliverables such as single‑line diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications to confirm constructability and compliance with NEC, IEEE, and client standards.
- Perform and validate load calculations, fault current analysis, arc flash studies, and protective device coordination.
- Collaborate with external design teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to align waste treatment system designs with facility requirements and project schedules.
- Conduct quality assurance and risk assessments on third‑party designs, addressing regulatory, constructability, and environmental impact considerations.
- Coordinate with third‑party quality teams to ensure construction meets final operational requirements.
- Support construction activities by handling RFIs, reviewing submittals (switchgear, transformers, VFDs, MCCs), and assisting with field coordination and inspections.
- Oversee commissioning and testing, evaluating third‑party design performance and coordinating vendor validation for equipment and system startup.
- Validate system performance through commissioning data, load testing, and diagnostics from SCADA, power analyzers, and thermal imaging.
- Lead fault analysis and root‑cause investigations for power quality issues and equipment failures, implementing corrective actions.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs using CMMS and condition‑based monitoring.
- Monitor system health with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, and field data to proactively detect and resolve issues.
- Coordinate upgrades, firmware updates, and lifecycle management of electrical assets with OEMs and internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, and NETA ATS/MTS standards.
- Use BIM tools (Revit, Navisworks) and control systems (PLC, SCADA) to verify design interoperability and optimize operations.
- Track project progress, manage design‑related risk, and ensure timely delivery of high‑quality design deliverables.
- This is a 100% on‑site role in Syracuse; relocation to the project location is required. Occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities, or third‑party design offices may be required.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment, juggling multiple design deliverables and deadlines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in electrical engineering, including design collaboration, construction support, and operational troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, and backup/emergency power systems.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA standards.
- Skilled in electrical analysis tools such as ETAP and SKM PowerTools, and BIM platforms like Revit and Navisworks.
