Responsibilities
- Assist in deploying sitewide instrumentation and controls strategies and systems
- Maintain and administer site standards, policies, and practices aligned with regulatory, industry, and Rio Tinto requirements
- Provide engineering support to operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to troubleshoot, optimize, and improve instrumentation and control systems
- Support design, procurement, installation, commissioning, QA, and handover activities for capital projects
- Oversee data logging, access, and visualisation from field instruments to aid monitoring, optimization, investigations, and trend analysis
- Assist technicians with day‑to‑day troubleshooting of instrumentation and controls systems
- Review functional descriptions and control philosophies for new or modified systems
- Interpret and troubleshoot PLC programming for critical systems
- Create, modify, and deploy SCADA/HMI graphics
- Review instrumentation and controls drawings for new installations
- Support commissioning of new and modified instrumentation and controls systems
- Update drawings and documentation to reflect as‑built conditions in line with change management requirements
- Develop and review instrumentation and control equipment specifications for procurement
- Support upgrades to obsolete or unsupported systems
- Participate in risk assessments to inform project planning and execution
Requirements
- Safety mindset with a strong commitment to protecting yourself and teammates
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Minimum two years of engineering and/or maintenance experience
- Knowledge of PLC programming methods including ladder logic, structured text, and function block
- Experience with Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Automation equipment
- Familiarity with PLC and SCADA/HMI software such as Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE, and CCW
- Experience with PlantPAx deployed SCADA systems
- Experience developing and programming SCADA graphics
- Ability to interpret instrumentation and control drawings
- Experience facilitating design reviews
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Basic CAD capability (AutoCAD or similar)
- Basic understanding of network architecture and industrial communication protocols
- Experience developing and implementing commissioning plans for complex systems
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong analytical thinking, data analysis, and problem solving skills
