Field Technical Support Engineer

Job Description

As a Field Technical Support Engineer at VinFast Auto, you will provide on-site technical vehicle systems support to help service center technicians and technical trainers resolve issues efficiently. Working from Irvine, CA (onsite), you will support diagnostics and repair escalations, share service readiness insights, and deliver early training on emerging technical support topics.

You will play a key role in diagnosing problems when service centers cannot fully resolve them, and in helping prevent quality issues by identifying trends and improving territory readiness. This is an on-the-road position that includes travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Handle diagnosis requests in a structured and timely manner
  • Maintain close working relationships with service center managers and technicians in the region
  • Provide ad-hoc in-Service Center product training sessions, including technical information on upcoming system software releases, new feature implementations, or debug capabilities
  • Take ownership of service technician concerns and apply effective problem resolution
  • For officially dispatched cases, address service center technician problem resolution needs via phone or on-site
  • Report on service center “Quality of Service” relative to overall service readiness
  • Use OBD-based diagnostics tools and resolve vehicle system issues based on reported DTCs
  • Travel as needed (typical travel: 30-70%)

Requirements

  • Technical automotive background as a high level Service Technician
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with Electric Vehicles is a plus
  • Analytical ability to understand and impact key performance indicators
  • Initiative to fix problems while also understanding why and how issues happen
  • Proven ability to lead by example and be innovative with processes and efficiencies
  • Ability to motivate a team and engage others to achieve success
  • Ability to perform well in an agile, fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly
  • Strong performance under pressure
  • Digitally savvy, with an ability to adopt and adapt quickly to new technology and systems
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office
  • Proficiency in vehicle CAN analysis and experience with flashing tools such as Vector Canoe and VFlash is a plus
  • Ability to use issue tracking tools such as JIRA and fleet management software to identify vehicle system software versions or confirm update success is a plus
  • Valid driving license
