Job Description

Mead & Hunt is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to lead the fire protection design across a portfolio of projects, guiding fire suppression systems, life safety analyses, and related tasks. Based in Denver with a flexible hybrid schedule and the opportunity for travel up to 25%, this role blends technical leadership with hands-on collaboration on diverse assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the fire protection design on multiple projects of varying sizes.
  • Prepare reports and studies to support design decisions.
  • Select, specify, and estimate costs for fire protection system equipment and components.
  • Perform calculations as required to size and layout systems.
  • Conduct periodic construction site inspections to verify conformance.
  • Supervise staff on project teams and provide technical guidance.
  • Execute other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in fire protection or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • At least six years of relevant plumbing engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in any state with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states.

The ideal candidate will have experience in any/all of the following

  • Leading fire protection design of complex projects including fire suppression / sprinkler, fire alarm and life safety building analysis.
  • Performing calculations for system layout and sizing.
  • Using Revit to create bid document drawings.
  • Designing systems for Federal Government projects.
  • Knowledge of fire protection and building codes.
  • NICET III or IV certification for Water Based System Layout and Fire Alarm from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with generative AI tools and platforms (for example Microsoft Copilot, Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini) to enhance productivity and reduce errors.

Salary Range

Salary Range: $100,000 to $150,000 – Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience, skill set, or location.
