FLS Production Engineer - Optical Alignment & Metrology Competency
Job Description
Provide production support with hands-on optical problem solving in ASML’s Production Engineering team at the Wilton Factory. This onsite role focuses on fast, first-line response to disturbances on the production floor by executing engineering steps from the production operator dashboard (POD). You will troubleshoot optical alignment and metrology issues, support diagnostics and qualification activities, and perform analysis and documentation to keep output on track.
What you’ll do
- Spend about 75% of your time in the Cleanroom delivering direct support to production processes and troubleshooting
- Rapidly troubleshoot optical alignment and metrology issues affecting production output
- Respond to module test and final qualification issues
- Troubleshoot manufacturing tooling and optical metrology equipment
- Perform re-computation of the nominal optical design
- Execute correction of optical aberrations
- Run image processing algorithms to extract nm flatness information from interferometer data
- Analyze Matlab scripts and review plot data from a database
- Support query code to interrogate data for manufacturing needs
- Conduct image analysis on data and derive conclusions
- Develop OCAPs, fishbones, and troubleshooting guidelines
- Support diagnostics qualification and implementation for production staff
- Evaluate and disposition failed parts with proposed solutions
- Support development of manufacturing procedures and technical work instructions
- Support design and document reviews for diagnostics
- Support DOA Root Cause Analysis
- Support implementation of cycle time and labor hours roadmaps
- Support PFMEA activities
- Read optical, mechanical, and electrical drawings
Education and experience
- Bachelor of Science in Optical Engineering
- 0+ years’ experience in an Engineering environment with a Bachelor of Science in Optical Engineering degree (Job Grade 6)
- 2+ years’ experience in an Engineering environment with a Bachelor of Science in Optical Engineering degree or 0+ years’ experience with a Master of Science in Optical Engineering (Job Grade 7)
Knowledge and skills
- Working knowledge of diverse optical metrology setups: interferometers, Shack-Hartmann sensor, polarimetry/ellipsometry, and optical alignment
- Working knowledge of geometric optics, wave optics, Gaussian propagation, and aberration theory
- Working knowledge of image/signal/data processing algorithms, statistics, and software development
- Working knowledge of epoxy application in opto-mechanical designs
- Working knowledge of optical assembly/alignment/test equipment and tools
- Working knowledge of lasers, polarization, detectors, electro-optical devices, and opto-mechanical constructions
- Experience in a production environment with high-tech products and complex production processes
- Lean Manufacturing experience
- Optical-Electrical sensor knowledge is a plus
- Technical Production Engineering and quality methodology (including statistical process control and FMEA) is a plus
- Working knowledge of NX, Teamcenter, and SAP is a plus
- Ability to interface with multidisciplinary groups (including senior leadership) and follow through on responsibilities
- Strong ownership characteristics and commitment to on-time results
- Strong written and oral communication skills for effective teamwork and communication to senior management
- Focus on quality and continuous improvements, with a demonstrated team-player mindset
- Willingness to provide occasional weekend coverage

Work schedule
- Openings for compressed work week schedules
- CWW D1: 6am to 6pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday
- CWW D2: 6am to 6pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and every other Wednesday
Cleanroom environment requirements
- Full gowning: full body coveralls, hood, CR safety shoes, face mask, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses
- Working under ISO 9000/14000 standards
- Working around overhead cranes, fork trucks, and motorized pallet movers
- Working around lasers; using ladders and platforms; and working around chemicals
Other working conditions
- Routine activities include sitting, walking, talking, hearing, keyboard use, hand use, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching, and stretching
- Occasional campus movement; occasional lifting or moving up to 20 pounds
- Travel may be required dependent on company needs
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to work under deadlines in a moderate temperature and noise environment
- Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents; observe and respond to people and situations
- Potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields and high voltage/currents
