Job Description
The Gas Turbine SCR Engineer - Technical Expert leads technical guidance and regulatory alignment for selective catalytic reduction systems in gas turbines within the U.S. market. Based onsite in Houston, TX, the role coordinates suppliers, oversees on-site installation activities, and ensures compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Interpret U.S. SCR related emission standards for gas turbines, clarifying NOx and CO limits, ammonia slip targets, the 15 percent O2 conversion rule, and metering requirements for dry basis and wet basis measurements.
- Apply knowledge of U.S. EPA recognized pollutant testing methods to guide the layout of SCR monitoring points, design sampling schemes, and select appropriate testing equipment.
- Monitor updates to U.S. environmental policies, anticipate regulatory changes affecting SCR products, and develop proactive response plans.
- Provide process and equipment design guidance for SCR systems tailored to U.S. gas turbine operating conditions, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Address key design areas such as reactor flow field, ammonia injection grid layout, catalyst selection, and ammonia zone safety to mitigate risks including high ammonia slip, flow resistance, and catalyst deactivation.
- Collaborate with domestic design teams to embed U.S. standards into SCR skid mounted systems, ensuring readiness for on-site installation in the U.S.
- Guide manufacturing and assembly of SCR systems in Chinese facilities to meet U.S. engineering and manufacturing standards, and produce production quality reports accepted by U.S. customers.
- Develop on-site installation specifications and procedures for the U.S. market and lead installation teams to integrate SCR systems with gas turbines, connect flue gas lines, and complete electrical and instrumentation work safely and with quality.
- Serve as the technical interface for the U.S. market, performing technical communications with customers and environmental authorities, and addressing compliance and engineering inquiries.
- Assist in preparing technical documents, certification materials, and inspection reports required for the U.S. market, ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
- Participate in U.S. project bidding by providing technical schemes and compliance statements to improve bid success rates.
- Screen high-quality suppliers globally, conduct qualification reviews, verify product compliance, assess technical capabilities, evaluate delivery capacity, and prepare supplier evaluation reports.
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to maintain an international qualified supplier database for SCR projects, clarifying supplier grade, scope, and compliance requirements across categories.
- Coordinate technically with international qualified suppliers to confirm product parameters, certification documents, and after-sales support, ensuring core components suit domestic skid-mounted SCR production and meet on-site installation, operation, and inspection requirements in the U.S.
- Track supplier compliance status, certification updates, and production capacity changes; mitigate supply chain risks and provide technical input for cost optimization and alternative approaches.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering or closely related field.
- At least 3 years of gas turbine SCR engineering experience.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience on SCR projects for the U.S. market.
- Knowledge of U.S. engineering codes and standards including ASME, API, and NFPA; familiarity with SCR system installation, commissioning, and acceptance procedures.
- Strong compliance risk awareness with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate environmental, safety, and trade-related risks in the U.S. market.
- Excellent communication skills with the capacity to translate complex technical concepts into clear value propositions for customers and internal stakeholders.
