Hardware Engineer
Job Description
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) is hiring a Hardware Engineer for Research and Development work supporting power grids and critical infrastructure. The position focuses on specifying, designing, and testing embedded hardware devices and sustaining them throughout the product lifecycle.
Role Summary
As a Hardware Engineer, you will develop embedded hardware used in power systems and critical infrastructure. The work includes circuit design, creating hardware specifications, executing test plans, maintaining product documentation, and supporting moderate complexity hardware project delivery from planning through production coordination.
Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, and develop conventional analog and digital circuits; conduct moderate to complex design reviews to verify product and circuit robustness.
- Develop hardware specifications and prepare system level specifications.
- Write and analyze test plans, execute tests, and evaluate results for use in peer design reviews and project notebooks.
- Prepare and maintain product documentation, including data sheets, instruction manuals, project notebooks, and design and test documentation.
- Provide and maintain accurate project plans; manage and/or lead moderate complexity hardware projects.
- Coordinate engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Typically 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: digital and/or analog circuit design.
- Experience with signal integrity.
- Experience with SGMII, USB 3.0, PCIE, DisplayPort, and LVDS.
- Experience with point of load supplies.
- Experience with analog inputs, analog outputs, digital inputs, and digital outputs.
- Experience with electromagnetic compatibility.
- Experience with components and packaging, including component derating and thermal management.
- Experience with PCB planning and system design.

Compensation
The anticipated pay range for this Hardware Engineer position is USD 97,740 - 144,460 per year. Additional candidates with more or less experience may be considered, and the pay range may change if filled at a different level. Starting pay and title are based on job-related factors including experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
