Healthcare Engineer
Job Description
As a Healthcare Engineer with the Fort Harrison VA Health Care System, you will guide project planning, design, and construction management for a range of facility improvements and leases at the medical center and its affiliated clinics. This onsite role in Fort Harrison, Montana centers on Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance, Station Level initiatives, and leasing activities from concept through completion, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient healthcare environments for veterans.
Responsibilities
- Assess requirements, conduct site reconnaissance, determine location, and produce designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Apply broad knowledge of standard industry practices, precedents, and codes to project work.
- Provide expert guidance to peers, staff, or non-engineering managers and administrators.
- Offer professional advisory services to managers and leadership.
- Plan scheduling and layouts, and supervise inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction.
- Use creativity to develop or adjust methods and procedures, identify new patterns, and connect with existing hypotheses.
- Prepare competitive bidding cost estimates for diverse projects across multiple-use contexts and locations with varying physical and cultural considerations.
- Lead planning, design, and oversight of maintenance projects, providing guidance and coordination as needed.
- Investigate maintenance performance issues requiring design modifications.
- Coordinate with designers and contractors to implement design changes.
- Provide professional advisory services related to observation, measurement, analysis, mapping, and description of physical and cultural features.
- Conduct investigations to obtain factual information pertaining to issues.
- Ensure quality control and adequacy of contractor operations, and work with contractors to obtain corrective actions.
- Review contractor progress charts and perform field surveys to verify fulfillment of obligations.
- Administer payments to the contractor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required to apply.
