Healthcare Engineer (Energy Engineer)
Job Description
The Healthcare Engineer will serve as the Resident Energy Manager for VACCHCS, delivering energy management leadership across the Medical Center and leased spaces while aligning initiatives with VISN, VACO and VA policy.
Position Details
Location: Fresno, CA (onsite)
Salary: USD 136,388 - 177,306 per year
Minimum Experience: 1 year
Responsibilities
- Monitor utility system components to detect significant changes in consumption or quantities.
- Demonstrate experience with Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) or have completed ESPC training through the Department of Energy or the Association of Energy Engineers to support Federal programs.
- Analyze data from the energy management system to identify trends, including underutilized or overutilized equipment.
- Conduct energy audits of HVAC, lighting, building systems, steam generation, domestic hot water, and other energy consumers within the VISN using standard energy analysis tools to reduce energy use.
- Monitor control and alarm set points within computerized energy management systems.
- Collaborate with energy plant personnel to improve boiler and chiller efficiency.
- Track natural gas prices to determine the economic benefit of using alternative fuels such as fuel oil in facility boilers.
- Determine local setback parameters for unoccupied spaces after hours.
- Evaluate existing energy savings installations such as glycol loops, heat wheels and solar panels and propose operational changes.
- Review contracts and contractor performance for water treatment, including boiler and chiller softeners and equipment used in food preparation or cleaning, for appropriateness and billing accuracy.
- Manage building and energy management systems and utility metering initiatives (electrical, water, etc.), ensuring proper use, expansion, and administration.
