IT Security Engineer
Job Description

Responsibilities
- Design and implement short and long term network capacity plans to meet current and future requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and training for network resource administration and appropriate use.
- Create methodologies for testing network performance and producing performance statistics and reports.
- Research emerging technologies to support network development and recommend cost-effective, flexible options.
- Document, communicate, and analyze plans for investing in network technologies, including cost-reduction opportunities.
- Collaborate with the executive team to shape network strategy.
- Research and recommend products, services, protocols, and standards to support network procurement and development efforts.
- Ensure network services have capacity, stability, and agility to satisfy service level agreements.
- Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of in-house and remote network devices and appliances.
- Design company LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, VMs, virtual networks, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and related devices.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Engage with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
- Recommend improvements or alternatives to the current systems architecture and technology portfolio.
- Review network design projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for standards compliance.
- Establish regular written and in-person communications with executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding network activities.
- Conduct feasibility studies for upgrade projects and other conversions.
- Configure networks to ensure smooth and reliable operation aligned with business objectives.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Ensure network connectivity of servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network appliances.
- Manage servers including database, email, print, and backup servers and their operating systems and software.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of inventory and related technical documentation.
- Monitor and test network performance and provide statistics and reports.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT or Computer Science.
- The equivalent combination of education and successful work experience (15 years) and Cisco Certification in specialized areas is required.
- 10 years’ experience managing, developing, and delivering strategic network architectural design and operational excellence.
- 10 years’ experience designing enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, VMs, virtual networks, etc.
- Excellent knowledge of current protocols and standards.
- Experience designing and implementing routers, switches, firewalls, and security software.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Strong knowledge of scaled systems, ability to identify problem areas, uphold network quality, and drive design.
- Expert knowledge of WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi technology.
- Strong knowledge of IT security requirements and experience working with information security.
- Experience with Lean IT concepts and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
