Java Software Engineer - Scrum Master

Leidos is seeking a Java Software Engineer - Scrum Master to support the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector. The work supports development of next-generation flight service and air traffic systems in a highly regulated environment, combining software delivery with Agile leadership.

This hybrid role in Gaithersburg, MD is split approximately 50% hands-on engineering and 50% Scrum Master responsibilities for an Agile team. The position emphasizes production-grade delivery, DevSecOps practices, and coordination across engineering and stakeholder groups.

Role Summary

• Develop and maintain cloud-native Java microservices as part of a software architecture and technical design process
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, and support predictable sprint outcomes
• Use modern DevSecOps and CI/CD practices, along with AI-assisted development tools, to deliver secure and high-quality software
• Coordinate with the Release Train Engineer, management, and cross-functional stakeholders on status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, review, debug, deploy, and maintain production-quality cloud-native Java microservices, including contributions to architecture and technical design decisions
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, promote continuous improvement, and help the team deliver predictable sprint outcomes
• Apply DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering best practices to accelerate delivery of secure software
• Communicate team status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress with the Release Train Engineer, management, and cross-functional stakeholders
• Support deployment, operational troubleshooting, and resolution of critical issues across development, test, and production environments
• Mentor junior engineers and foster collaboration across engineering teams to support sprint execution and project delivery

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of prior experience
• 3+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and reviewing Java applications
• 1+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile team in a large-scale software development environment
• Significant experience with web development and front-end tools and languages: React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Significant experience with unit testing tools: Junit and Mockito
• Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, XSD
• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot
• Experience with Linux
• Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion
• Experience with common development tools and IDEs such as Eclipse and VS Code
• Understanding of sound software development principles and practices
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• SF-85 Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability determination required
• US citizenship required
• Candidate must be able to obtain a favorable SF-85P Public Trust suitability determination from the FAA customer

Pay Range

USD 87,100 - 157,450 per year
